It was a beautiful winter day for exploring in the desert!

Alamo Canyon Galleries

On February 15, 2019 I paid a visit to Alamo Canyon to visit the rock art sites located there.  I had wanted to visit this site for a long time, but had never been able to figure out exactly how to get there.  The night before I left I went on Google Earth and plotted out a couple of different routes, but was not at all sure I would be able to reach the site (I was afraid I would encounter locked gates, which I did, but was able to circumvent).  I parked at the west end of the dam, and spent about four hours exploring.  I found quite a few petroglyph panels, Jaguar Cave, and Little Figure Cave.  I did not find the Storyteller Panel, so I will need to make a return trip some day– there is lots more to explore out there!  Here are some of the pictures I took that day…..

This last Gallery includes photos of the pictographs from Jaguar Cave and Little Figure Cave at the Alamo Canyon main site.

The Storyteller Woman Panel and Site —  The Third Time is a Charm!

The above galleries were taken on my intitial visit to Alamo Canyon in February of 2019.  I returned to Alamo Canyon during an April of 2022 rock art trip and spent some time looking for the Storyteller Woman but had no success.  On my third visit to the canyon in September of 2024 I was finally successful in locating this beautiful petroglyph site.  Below are pictures I took during that visit.  For details of this trip take a look at my blog post.

These first two sets of photos were taken with my Nikon D500 camera…

The following five photos from the Storyteller Site were taken with my D500 in RAW format and processed in Lightroom Classic.

The following photos were taken with my Samsung S22 cell phone…
