The Second Lines and Street Scenes Gallery

On our 48th Anniversary trip to New Orleans and Mardi Gras, we spent much of Tuesday, March 1, 2022 roaming around the French Quarter enjoying the impromptu parades and “Second Lines” as well as many other colorful street scenes.  I also took an early morning walk that day and saw some nice sights.  The blog post of our trip does not include all of the photos and videos we took, so this gallery includes photos and videos not in our blog.  Enjoy!

A Few Videos From Our Afternoon Stroll Around The French Quarter on Fat Tuesday….

In this first video, I can’t quite talk Dorothy into joining these three gentlemen who were performing on Royal Street…

An impromptu parade with a long second line cruising down a side street next to St. Louis Cathedral as Dorothy does a little jig!

This little video was taken on Royal Street in the French Quarter, and features a laid back impromptu parade and second line.  I believe Dorothy also spotted Elvis in this second line!

In this little video, Dorothy ALMOST caught some beads being thrown from a balcony in the French Quarter.  Better luck next time Dorothy!

This final video is of a street performer named Maurice.  He is the young man playing the acoustic guitar and trombone in this video.  He was out there most of the day, usually playing and singing by himself.  Apparently he is also on the current season of American Idol.  Good luck Maurice!

A CLOSER LOOK AT MAURICE'S SIGN. QUITE THE SHOWMAN!

PICKING OUT A MASK IN THE SHOP ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE GUMBO SHOP. NOW I FIT IN A LITTLE BETTER!
DOROTHY ACROSS FROM THE CAFE DU MONDE. THAT PLACE ALWAYS SEEMED TO HAVE A LINE.
THE DECORATIONS ON THIS BALCONY CAUGHT MY EYE-- THEY MATCHED DOROTHY'S COSTUME!
DOROTHY, PEOPLE WATCHING FROM HER BENCH IN FRONT OF THE ST. LOUIS CATHEDRAL.
WE SAW LOTS OF COLORFUL COSTUMES WHILE SITTING NEAR JACKSON SQUARE AND THE CATHEDRAL.
THIS GROUP COMMANDED A LOT OF ATTENTION!
WE SAW MANY AMAZING HOMEMADE COSTUMES, LIKE THIS LADY'S TREE COSTUME.
AS WE RETURNED TO THE HOTEL AFTER AN AFTERNOON OF TAKING IN THE MARDI GRAS REVELRY, WE STOPPED AND GOT DOROTHY'S MOM A KING CAKE, AT A SHOP THAT SPECIALIZED IN THEM.

Photos From My Morning Walk to The French Market and Waterfront, Early on Fat Tuesday…

THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS DOES ITS BEST TO CLEAN UP EACH NIGHT, BUT YOU STILL SEE A LOT OF LEFTOVER BEADS AND OTHER REMNANTS OF THE PARTYING.
MORE LEFTOVERS FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE.

ONE OF THE OBJECTIVES OF MY MORNING WALK WAS TO FIND A SUITABLE PLACE TO EACH LUNCH-- I FOUND IT!
I PASSED THE LOUISANA SUPREME COURT BUILDING ON MY WALK HOME. IT IS JUST A COUPLE OF BLOCKS FROM THE HOTEL MONTELEONE.

THE NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT SUB-STATION IS JUST A BLOCK FROM THE MONTELEONE. DURING MARDI GRAS, THE HOTEL SETS UP A SPECIAL FEEDING SPOT FOR THE COPS IN THE EMPLOYEE AREA OF THE HOTEL.
