The Gibb River Site Galleries (Crocodile Wandjina Site)
I visited this colorful and controversial site on two occasions. On the afternoon of September 17, 2019, I was at Ellenbrae Station getting a tire fixed. While speaking with Logan (the young man who runs the station), a man who was there eating a late lunch overheard me discussing rock art and approached me, asking if I was aware that there was a site near the Gibb River Crossing on the road to Mitchell Falls and Drysdale Station. I told him I was not aware of that site so he showed me a couple of pictures and gave me general directions. Later that afternoon, I found the site and made a brief stop there. I was concerned about reaching Drysdale Station before dark (I had been somewhat delayed by my flat tire), so I did not stay long. On September 22, 2019, on my return trip, I stopped again and this time spent time exploring the area, taking more photos, and making a video. When I stopped in to visit Lee Scott Tribute in Kununurra (to thank her for her help), she filled me in on the controversy which surrounds the Gibb River Site (see my blog post for details!). Hope you enjoy my photos and video from that day.
