The Burnt Bean Co
108 S. Austin, Seguin Tx
(830) 609-7189
Our Overall Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ (Five Hearts Out of Ten)
I really wanted to be blown away by this place. After reading the Texas Monthly rating and review, I had high hopes that their offerings would rocket me straight to barbeque heaven. Unfortunately, I was disappointed, especially in the brisket, which was very, very fatty. And, honestly, the flavor, seasoning, and sauce was just not that great either. The pork ribs and sausage faired better, but not enough to boost our overall rating. The ambiance was good — the owners have done a nice job with the historic location. And the staff were friendly, efficient, and professional. This place gets extra credit for creativity, especially in the sides and sandwiches (their “Brass Monkey Sandwich” sounds intriguing!). I also like the fact that they have special menu items for Sunday brunch, an outside dining area, and cool t-shirts. I just wish the brisket would have been better! Here are Dorothy’s comments:
“The brisket didn’t have much flavor, and almost 1/2 of each slice was fat. The red BBQ sauce was too sweet for my taste, although the orange sauce was o.k. The pork ribs were tasty, not too fatty, and fall-off-the-bone tender. I would recommend them. The pinto beans were good. They had some extra spice that made them tasty and sets them apart from other pinto beans I have had. The green beans were o.k., nothing too distinctive, but at least they weren’t too sweet, like some places sell. The red velvet/tres leches dessert was great — more cake than cream (but I like cake, especially when it is moist, like this was).”
I guess the real question is, will we be driving to Seguin for our barbeque in the future? Unfortunately, the answer is probably not.
