Snowy Cotinga
Carpodectes nitidus
eBird gives this description for the Snowy Cotinga: Male is entirely snowy white with stout dark bill. Female also has stout gray bill, but body entirely pale gray with obvious white edges on wing feathers. Rather chunky body with short tail and smoothly rounded head, large black eye. Distinctive in limited range. Found in forest canopy, often seen around fruiting trees. Frequently perches conspicuously, but can descend into foliage when feeding. Quiet.
The Birds of the World website introduces the Snowy Cotinga with this descriptive information: The Snowy Cotinga is one of three allopatrically-distributed species in the genus Carpodectes. All the males in this genus are stunning white, while females are gray with white wing edgings. The Snowy is the only member of the genus with both a dark bill and dark eye. It occurs along the Caribbean slope of Central America from northwestern Honduras to northwestern Panama. It occurs in humid forest and second growth, and is generally spotted perched on top of an exposed branch in the canopy. Fruits are taken by plucking or sallying, and the nest is a very small cup-like construction placed in a tree. Individual Snowy Cotingas apparently wander widely, perhaps in response to food availability.
I saw and photographed my first Snowy Cotinga (it was a female) on the afternoon of February 6, 2023 at La Selva in Costa Rica. The bird was perched high up in the canopy and, although distantly high, offerred some good looks.
