Shay Canyon was a delightful place to visit with lots of petroglyphs and great scenery!

SHAY CANYON

I explored Shay Canyon on the morning of March 24, 2018.  It is the first major rock art site on Utah State Highway 211 (Indian Creek Scenic Byway) as you head from Newspaper Rock to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.  There is rock art all along this road, and I will include a small gallery of some art I encountered before I got to Shay Canyon.  It is a nice site, with a large quantity and variety of petroglyphs to enjoy.  Speaking of enjoyment, if you can’t make out there to see the site in person, I hope you enjoy my photos!

On the way from Newspaper Rock to Shay Canyon, I came across a small cluster of unnamed petroglyph panels located near the road and low on the canyon wall.  I affectionately call random panels that I find along a road as “roadkill”.  Here is the roadkill I encountered on the way to Shay Canyon.
