My First Visit to House on Fire, October 23, 2023…
I made my first visit to the House on Fire Ruin in the south fork of Mule Canyon on October 23, 2013. I had visited Moon House that morning then stopped by House on Fire later that day. This was early in my hiking “career” and I was quite proud of myself that day! It was a beautiful spot and one that I will never forget. During both my visits to house on fire I took photos with my Fuji travel camera. Below are some of my photos from that first visit.
My Second Visit to House on Fire, March 23, 2024…
I made my second visit to House on Fire on March 23, 2014 when Billy Ward and I hiked the South Fork of Mule Canyon so Billy could see this iconic site. We got there a little early and the sun was not quite in the best condition. We waited about 45 minutes and finally got some better light. The roof of the rock-shelter really does look like it is on fire when the light hits it just right!
My Third Visit to House on Fire, October 2, 2025…
I am glad I was able to squeeze in a quick visit to House on Fire during my Fall 2025 rock art trip. Perhaps no better site than House on Fire exits to put my current camera and my improved photography skills to the test. I think you will agree that I have made some progress after comparing the photographs below with the photos I took on my two prior visits to this iconic site. I guess what surprised me the most was how very little processing in Lightroom was required to make the ceiling really pop. I still have much room for improvement, but I am proud of the progress I have made with my photography over these last few years!
