Moon House Ruin Gallery

Moon House is a magnificent ruins complex located in McLoyd Canyon of the Cedar Mesa Area of Utah.  I first visited Moon House on October of 2013 as part of my solo trip to Cedar Mesa to backpack with Vaughn Hadenfeldt in the Grand Gulch area.  I paid a return visit on March 23, 2014, introducing a friend to the joy and wonder of this special place (see my blog post of this trip here).  It was while I was visiting this place when I decided to apply to Texas State to get some formal education in the field of archaeology.  I was sitting near the main ruin, and pulled an apple from my pack.  I thought to myself “The most powerful man that lived in this place never experienced anything as glorious as this apple”.  But upon further reflection I thought “How arrogant of me, I know nothing about this culture and the history of this region– I would enjoy learning more in a structured educational environment”.  When I returned home I went on-line and applied to Texas State.  I spent about 5 minutes writing my “essay”, and didn’t know what to expect.  Well, I was accepted, and subsequently earned my B.S. in Anthropology (with an emphasis on Southwest Archaeology)– thank you for the inspiration Moon House!  Below you will find galleries of the Moon House Complex from both of my visits there.  Some day I need to return, and take a proper set of photos, but I hope you enjoy the ones I took in 2013 and 2014.
