Lion’s Mouth Gallery

Shortly after noon on Friday, July 12, 2012, I made my way to the Lion’s Mouth, a BLM managed pictograph site west of Cedar City, Utah.  To get to the site, I had a fairly short drive on a good dirt road and a nice little hike on a maintained trail.  There is a trailhead and parking area, but it is not improved and there is no signage.  I am not sure what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the site.  Although it is has been known to locals for a long time, there is almost no graffiti or damage at the site.  I took my time and explored the area around the alcove, and found no other rock art in the area.  To see my blog post that includes my visit to the Lion’s Mouth Site, look here.  Hope you enjoy my photos of this special place!

I really enjoyed my time at this special place!
On my drive north from St. George, I kept encountering cyclists on the back roads. When I came out of the road to the Lion's Mouth, I ran into one of their SAG wagons and chatted them up before making a donation to their group, a non-profit called Bike and Build.
