CHACO CANYON ROCK ART GALLERY

I first visited Chaco Canyon in October of 2013.  I was on the way to Cedar Mesa for a backbacking trip with Vaughn Hadenfeldt.  I did not seek out, nor see, any of the rock art in the canyon on that trip.  I explored Pueblo Bonito, and hiked the Pueblo Alto trail.  That was about all I had time for on that initial trip.  On August 4, 2017, Billy Ward and I visited Chaco on the tail end of a trip to Nine Mile Canyon and McKonkie Ranch.  Again, our time was limited, so we focused on hiking the Penasco Blanco Trail and seeing the Supernova Pictograph near the end of that trail.  Of course, that trail also includes the Petroglyph Trail, so, in addition to seeing the pictograph, we also saw a number of petroglyphs.  There are several other areas of the canyon that contain petroglyphs, so I definitely need to return to Chaco someday to see the areas I have not had time to explore.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the photos I took in August of 2017!
