BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK GALLERY
(Dendrocygna autumnalis)
eBird offers this description of the Black-bellied Whistling Duck: Gangly with a long neck and legs. Its body is chestnut-and-black colored and it has electric pink legs and red bill. Bold white stripe on wings are visible and readily identifiable in flight. Travels in flocks and, unlike many ducks, is nocturnal (active at night).
I first saw this duck down in the Sabine Pass area, on my way to Sabine Woods in April of 2020. I subsequently saw one from my back porch! Here are some of my photos.
