A MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF WRIGHT'S GENIUS-- THE AIME AND NORMAN LYKES HOUSE IN PHOENIX, AZ.

Aime and Norman Lykes Residence

1959

6836 N. 36th St.
Phoenix, AZ 85018

This spectacular home was designed specifically for a 1.3 acre lot on the steep foothills of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.  All parts of the design plan are circles or circular segments with five major radius center.  Wright’s design called for Desert-rose tinted concrete blocks and Phillipine mahogany. For more pictures, information, and some videos of this amazing residence, look here.  Below are a few of the pictures I took on the afternoon of January 4, 2024 during my visit to the Phoenix area.  I am grateful I got to see this special place and hope that someday I can return and experience the inside of the home!

THE MAILBOX AND DRIVEWAY ENTRY AT THE LYKES HOUSE.
I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT THE LYKES PROPERTY DRIVEWAY GATE DID NOT CONTAIN SOME CIRCULAR ELEMENTS.
I TOOK THIS PHOTO FROM ABOVE THE DRIVEWAY, LOOKING INTO THE CARPORT. NOT SURE WHAT THE STEEL FRAMES IN THE HALF-CIRCLE BRICK PLANTER ARE FOR.
THIS PHOTO GIVES YOU SOME IDEA OF THE GREAT VIEWS OF PHOENIX THAT THE LYKES HOUSE ENJOYS.
A VIEW FROM THE STREET DIRECTLY BELOW THE LYKES RESIDENCE. GIVES YOU AN IDEA HOW STEEP THE HILL IS!
ANOTHER SHOT FROM THE STREET BELOW.
ONE FINAL PHOTO OF THE BEAUTIFUL AND STUNNING LYKES HOUSE.
