Mrs. Alice Millard Residence

“La Miniatura”

1923

In 1906 the Millard’s built a large Prairie Style home in Oak Park, Illinois.  Seventeen years later (1923) Mrs. Millard built the first of four Wright’s textile-block houses in the Los Angeles area.  It features a two story living room that is lit by means of peirced pattern blocks.  The home sits on over an acre, and overlooks beautiful gardens that were designed by Wright’s eldest son, Lloyd Wright.  I did a drive-by of this house on the afternoon of Saturday, January 5, 2024.  Below you will find a few of the photos I took from the street during my drive-by.  For some photos of this unique and lovely property that are posted on a real estate sales sight, look here.

VIEW OF THE MILLARD HOUSE FROM THE STREET, LOOKING ACROSS THE SMALL MOTOR COURT.
IN THIS VIEW OF LA MINIATURA, YOU CAN SEE THE PEIRCED BLOCKS THAT PROVIDE LIGHT FOR THE TWO STORY LIVING ROOM.
LIKE MANY OF WRIGHT'S DESIGNS, THE MAIN ENTRY INTO THE HOUSE IS NOT READILY APPARENT FROM THE STREET VIEW.
I TOOK THIS PHOTO BY STEPPING OFF THE STREET TO PEAK DOWN INTO THE RAVINE THAT THE HOUSE OVERLOOKS.
