Saying Goodbye To Our Inca Trail Crew


On the morning of our last full day on the Inca Trail, we said goodbye to our crew and gave them our thanks.  It is hard to describe how hard these men work.  I got to know them quite well, despite the language barrier.  Most mornings I was up very early and would find my way to the main cook tent to beg for a cup of coffee.  I would often sit with the men absorbing their energy and cheerful humility — these early morning visits are one of my favorite memories of the Inca Trail.  I gave a number of the men special gifts, and, during the course of the trip, endeavored to personally thank each one and slip them a little cash.
