Indian Head Gallery
On the afternoon of January 6, 2012 I visited the Indian Head Rock Art Site located near the western border of Big Bend National Park. Although the site is inside the park, it is accessed from outside the park. To get to the trailhead exit the west entrance to the park at Maverick Junction and go about 4 miles on Highway 118 (toward Alpine). Turn Right on Indian Head Road (dirt road just north of Big Bend Resorts and Adventures) and go about 2.25 miles to the parking area, which is just outside the park boundary. The site is a short hike along the base of a mountain on your left. This site was fun to explore. There are petroglyphs, pictographs, and grinding holes scattered around the site. Nothing really spectacular, but enough to make it interesting. If you walk far enough you come to a small spring. I hope you enjoy the photos I took that day!
