Toquima Cave Gallery

I visited Toquima Cave on the late afternoon of Sunday, November 3, 2019.  The drive up to the trailhead was beautiful, as was the short hike up to the cave.  Although there is a metal barrier at the mouth of the cave, the pictographs are quite visible and well preserved.  It was also interesting to note that this site must still be very important to Native Americans– I saw several offerings they had left near the mouth of the cave.  For details of my trip that included this visit to Toquima cave, look here.  Below are some the pictures I took of this interesting site.

Getting to the Cave…

It takes a pretty good drive to get up to the trailhead. The first miles are gradual climbing, while the last miles are much steeper.
The trailhead to the cave is at the Toquima Campground. I was the only one there!
Signage at the Toquima Cave Trailhead.
As you can see from the register at the trailhead, this site does not get an abundance of visitors.
The trail is well marked and maintained. It climbs gently up to the cave, which is in the cliffs in the background.
The cave entrance is well protected by a heavy duty grate. While I hate these things, unfortunately, they are necessary in this day and time to protect the art.
