WHITE IBIS GALLERY
(Eudocimus albus)
eBird offers this description of the White Ibis: Adults are white with a bit of black on the wingtips. Red decurved bill and pinkish-red legs. Bright blue eyes. Immatures are half brown, half white. Forages in saltmarshes and shallow wetlands, often in flocks. In flight, flaps quickly and then glides on bowed wings. Accustomed to people in some parts of its range. It is commonly seen on lawns and in parking lots scavenging for food scraps.
I saw my first White Ibis at Sabine Woods on the afternoon of April 26, 2020. I was walking around the large lagoon and saw a fairly large group of White Ibis. It was difficult to get good photos because of thick underbrush along the edge of the lagoon, but I did my best. Two days later I saw a couple of them while driving around High Island, Texas. Hope you enjoy my photos!
