BLUE-WINGED TEAL GALLERY
(Anas discors)
eBird offers this description of the Blue-winged Teal: Small duck with chalky-blue patches on the upper-wing. Breeding males have a white crescent in front of eye. Females are patterned, cold brown, and show a hint of the male’s white crescent on face. Black bill. Forages by dabbling and tipping-up in shallow wetlands. Blue-winged Teal are fast, and wary, flying in small groups or flocks, turning in unison and flashing the blue area of the wing. The arrive latest of all ducks at their breeding grounds and leave early in the fall.
I have only made one sighting of this duck and that was at a great distance. I hope to be able to get better photos some day in the future!
