A Few Videos We Made On Our 46th Wedding Anniversary Trip to the Coast
Your grandmother and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary with a short trip to Rockport, Port Aransas, and Port Lavaca, down on the coast. We enjoyed great seafood, bird watching, and relaxing. We made you a few videos on our little trip. The first three videos were taken at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. We were delighted to see Whooping Cranes and Eagles while there. On the way home we stopped by Port Lavaca, where your Grandmother Dede grew up. We made a few videos at the two houses she grew up in and at her dad’s medical office, where she worked during her high school summers. I hope you enjoy these little videos, and, if you haven’t seen a real live whooping crane in the wild, I hope we can take you there some day!
This next little video was taken on the beach at Mustang Island State Park. Your grandmother DeeDee used to go to the beach often at Port Aransas and Mustang Island while growing up in Port Lavaca, which is just a little further up the coast to the northeast. I hope someday we can rent a house on the beach so you can enjoy some time there!
On the way home, we stopped in Port Lavaca so your grandmother could make some videos showing and telling you about the places she lived growing up there. The first two videos below were made in front of the house on West Austin Street where she lived as a young child. The next two videos were taken in front of the South Virginia Street house on Lavaca Bay, where DeeDee lived as a teenager. The last video was made in front of her father’s medical office, in the 600 block of North Virginia St., where she used to work during summers from 1964 through 1970.
