Black Canyon Petroglyph Gallery ( Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge)

I visited the Black Canyon Petroglyph Site on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 6, 2019.  I had never heard of this site, but noticed it on a map.  It is located within the Pahranagat National Wildlife Preserve, right on Nevada Highway 93 (South of Alamo, Nevada).  The gate to the access road was locked, so I went to the visitor center, hoping to get permission to hike up to the cliff that contained the petroglyphs.  The visitor center was closed and I could not locate any park personnel, so I had to be satisfied with taking photos from the road with my long lens.  I would love to look at this site up close some day!  As a sidenote, the map I was using also identified a site off Alamo Canyon Road as “Black Point Petroglyphs”.  I didn’t have time to make the drive to this location, but perhaps next time!

This was the first panel I spotted, high up on the cliff/hillside.
The very dark patina and underlying reddish rock make for a nice contrast.
I would love to climb up and get a closer look at this area!
Anthropomorh?
Wish I could get a closer look!
This panel looks quite weathered.
I am sure there is much more to see at this site...
The south end of the cliff. Appears to contain many petroglyphs!
