THE WALLED OFF SPRING SITE IN POISON SPRING CANYON
The final rock art site I found in Poison Spring Canyon was near the Walled Off Spring, hence the name I assigned to the site. It is located a little over nine miles into the canyon, right on the main road, near the spring. I actually drove past the site on purpose. I was looking for an old cowboy campground that was about three quarters of a mile past the Walled Off Spring. There is supposed to be an authentic Butch Cassidy inscription on the back of a large boulder at this campsite. I located what I thought was the campsite area, but an hour spent boulder hopping failed to result in finding the Butch Cassidy inscription. So after that little mis-adventure, I drove back to Walled Off Spring to search for the rock art. I located the art, but it was a very small site. There were two small figures with shields down low, then some zoomorphs way up high. By this time I was getting worried that I needed to head out of the canyon, so I very well could have missed some rock art in the area around Walled Off Spring. But here are my photos of the art I did find.
