THE "MEDICINE MAN" IN LARGO CANYON. A FEW THINGS I NOTICED: NO LEFT ARM, NECK ORNAMENT, CHEST ORNAMENT, NO LEGS, NO DISTINCT FACIAL FEATURES, FOUR FEATHERS ON THE HEAD. NEXT TO THE FOUR FEATHERS IS SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A SHAFT. OVERALL, A SIMPLE YET COMPLEX ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURE!

Medicine Man Gallery

I spent April 22, 2022 looking for rock art in Largo Canyon, New Mexico, with Tori Myers, staff archaeologist at the Salmon Ruins Museum.  One of the last sites we visited that day was one that Tori called “The Medicine Man”.  I enjoyed this little site.  In addition to the enigmatic central anthropomorh, there were a number of finely executed animal tracks, and another small anthropomorph on, or above, a zoomorphwith a headress or perhaps very long horns —  a very interesting little element.  To read my blog about the trip that includes my visit to Largo Canyon and this site, look here.  Below are some of the photos I took that day.  I hope you enjoy them!
