FRESNO CANYON

On the morning of April  22, 2022 Tori Myers (staff archaeologist at Salmon Ruins Museum) and I explored the area around the intersection of Largo Canyon and Fresno Canyon.  This area contained a few petroglyphs, but was dominated by historical rock art graffiti.  Since this area was right on the Old Spanish Trail, it has a lot of this historical art.  Below are some of the photos I took that morning.  To see the blog that includes my visit to this area (as well as my visit to Jesus Canyon the day before), look here

JESUS CANYON PUEBLITO & PETROGLYPHS

I spent April 21, 2022 exploring in Largo Canyon with Tori  Myers, staff archaeologist at the Salmon Ruins Museum.  The first significant site that we visited was Jesus Canyon Pueblito (also known to the Navaho as Tso’bito Pueblito).  There were some petroglyphs on two of the large rocks near the pueblito.  The larger of the two panels appeared to perhaps be a map, and covered one side of a large boulder.  The other panel looked much older and some of the elements were difficult to see or determine what they represented.  Of note was a zoomorph and an unusual handprint.  Below you will find some of the photos I took of this site.
