Yellow Man Gallery
On the afternoon of March 7, 2026 during my Spring 2026 rock art trip I visited a small site in the Canyon de Chelly complex that I am calling the Yellow Man Site for this purposes of this blog. This site was not far from the Big Cave site and, like many of the sites in this area, sat high up on a ledge that could only be viewed from a distance. The site was dominated by a large Great Pueblo anthropomorph that was painted in a tan/yellow color, hence the name Yellow Man. Near the large yellowish anthropomorph are several other elements of the same color, but badly weathered or damaged. Also nearby are some very plain white anthropomorphs and some dark read zoomorphs. I was unable to match any of these elements to the descriptions or photos in Campbell Grants book. I guess it is possible that this panel is part of the Big Cave (CDM-155) complex or perhaps the Many Cherry (MCC-11) complex, but I am not sure. Anyway, here are a few photos of the site I am calling “Yellow Man”.
