I spent the night of my 72nd birthday (September 3, 2024) at the Samuel Eppstein Residence in Galesburg, Michigan.  I rented the home on Airbnb and enjoyed the experience of spending yet another night in an environment straight from the mind and genius of Frank Lloyd Wright.  The house was unusual in a number of repects —  the bedrooms and bathrooms were quite large, compared with I have seen at other Usonian Designs.  It was also strange to see two living rooms (Wright called the one at the back of the house the “family room”) at opposite ends of the in-line house.  I noticed that the hall (along the row of bedrooms), the bedrooms, and the family room did not have complete grid scoring on the floors.  In fact, as I recall, the hall had no grid marks at all.  It also seemed out of place to find standard hinges instead of the usual piano hinges preferred by Wright.  And finally, the wooden furniture had floor protectors (also called sliders) on the legs, which I have never seen on Wright designed peices before.   I enjoyed my stay at the Eppstein House, but I  must admit that I much preferred the elegance and style of the Palmer House in Ann Arbor, as compared to the more pedestrian and mundane design of Eppstein.  Below are some of the photos that I took during my stay.

YOURS TRULY, HAPPY TO BE AT THE EPPSTEIN HOUSE!
