This Usonian design was born of FLLW’s Broadacre City model that he called “a home for sloping ground”. It is a T-plan based on a four foot square grid unit. The living room and its balcony are cantilivered above a ravine and are separated from the bedroom wing by a loggia. The house was built for Gregor S. and Elizabeth B. Affleck, who later became friends with the Smiths (who lived nearby) and the Palmers (from Ann Arbor).
I visited this house early on the morning of Saturday, August 31, 2024. Knowing that the home was owned by the Lawrence Institute of Technology and not occupied, I was able to freely roam the grounds and get lots of photos from all angles. My blog entitled “Frank Lloyd Wright in Michigan” includes my visit to this site. I hope you enjoy my photos. The photos in this first gallery block were taken with my Samsung S22, except for the last two interior shots, which I took off the internet.
This next group of photos was taken with my Nikon D500 camera.
