THE PETROGLYPH PANEL THAT IS LOCATED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FEET NORTH OF THE RUINS AND PICTOGRAPHS AT THE SLEEPING DUCK SITE.

I visited the Sleeping Duck Ruin site in Canyon de Chelley on the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2026 during my Spring 2026 Rock Art Trip.  This site was very difficult to photograph and enjoy —  harsh bright light with shadows from tree limbs and the close proximity of trees and other foliage to the cliff wall did not make for a very enjoyable time at this site.  But, the site was quite large and full of very interesting elements.  Campbell Grant has numerous items from this site highlighted in his book including a complete drawing of the large petroglyph panel located several hundred feet to the north of the main part of the site (Fig.453., page 202).  I hope you enjoy my rather haphazard phtography from this site.

This first set of photos is from the petroglyph panel several hundred feet to the north of the ruins that remain at the site.  The trees and shadows made it difficult to get comprehensive shots, but I did my best.

THE LARGE HUMAN FIGURE AT THE CENTER OF THE PANEL WITH TWO FLUTE PLAYERS UNDER HIS EXTENDED LEFT ARM.
THIS BIRD IMAGE LOOKS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE A ROADRUNNER TO ME!
THIS RECUMBENT FLUTE PLAYER IS ONE OF SEVERAL FLUTE PLAYERS DEPICTED IN THIS PANEL.
THE FIGURE ON THE RIGHT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS SPIDER LEGS.
DEER, DOGS, AND MORE FLUTE PLAYERS.
THESE GEOMETRICS LOOK VERY OLD.
SOME INTERESTING ITEMS IN THIS AREA OF THE PANEL, INCLUDING "STACKED DUCKS".

This next group of photographs is of the pictographs at Sleeping Duck, located above the ruins at the site.
