THE SHEEP POINT SITE. CAMPBELL GRANT'S BOOK SAYS THERE IS A NAVAJO CHARCOAL HORSE AT THE SITE, BUT WE SAW NO SIGN OF IT ON OUR VISIT.

Sheep Point Site Gallery
SHP – 11

I visited the Sheep Point Site (located on a cliff at the entrance to Sheep Point Canyon in Canyon del Muerto) on the morning of Saturday, March 7, 2026 during my Spring 2026 Rock Art Trip. This was a small Great Pueblo site done all in white paint.  It took a little bit of a hike to reach the location, but it was worth the effort!  While in the area, we spent some time looking for SHP-12, the East Trail Petroglyphs, but were unable to find them in the overgrown, very rough terrain.  Campbell Grant’s book says there is also a Navajo charcoal horse at the Sheep Point site, but we saw no sign of it.

CAN YOU SPOT THE PICTOGRAPHS? LOOK ON THE CLIFF FACE TO THE LEFT OF THE TALLEST TREE.
THERE THEY ARE!
AN INTERESTING PANEL. IS THAT EVIDENCE OF DESECRATION IN THE LOWER RIGHT?
A GOOD LOOK AT THE ENTIRE PANEL.

I THINK THIS IS THE BEST PHOTO OF THE BUNCH.
