This is a magnificent house!  After I got home and looked at the owners’ website, I learned that it is possible to arrange a tour if you are a member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, which I am —  another opportunity lost, such is life!  I would recommend you look at the website as there are a number of very interesting photos of the house to be found there.  If you search Turkel House on Facebook you can also see some beautiful photos of this house as well as some interesting information.  Well, enough of what could have been and on to what was —  my drive-by visit to the Turkel House in Detroit.

I did a drive-by of the Turkel House on the morning of Saturday, August 31, 2024.  The house is located at 2760 W. Seven Mile Rd. in Detroit, near Palmer Park.  It was difficult to get any decent shots but below you will find the photographs I did manage to take that morning.  The house is a beautiful two-story  Usonian Automatic, designed for Dr. H. and Dorothy H. Turkel in 1955.  It features a square block that was oversized by Wright in order to obtain a proper sense of scale for the two story building.  The current owners, Norman Silk and Dale Morgan, have done a beautiful restoration of the house and have added property to the west of the original lot. I walked around the corner on Strathcona Dr. where I found a back gate to the Turkel House located in a cute little butterfly garden.  You might also like to visit my blog post that includes my visit to this site.
