White Clay Gallery

On the afternoon of Thursday, April  21, 2022, I was exploring in Largo Canyon with Tori Myers, staff archaeologist with the Salmon Ruin Museum.  The last site we visited that day was a very unusual pictograph site, done with white clay.  Very near the panel was an exposed vein of white clay that was used to make the pictographs.  This clay was a valuable resource for the native people and was primarily used as “slip” when making and finishing pottery.  Here are a few of my photos from the site, including a few D-stretch views.
