Star Ceiling Gallery
On the morning of Friday, April 22, 2022 Tori Myers (staff archaeologist from the Salmon Ruins Museum) and I were exploring in Largo Canyon, looking for rock art. One of the sites we were looking for was the “Star Ceiling”. We found this site without too much trouble, and found it to be a small alcove with faint “stars” painted on the ceiling. Tori explained that Navajo “medicine” required that certain rituals must be performed when the stars (constellations) are in a certain position in the sky. The “Star Ceiling” site was used when a ritual needed to be performed but it was the wrong time of year, thus the stars were out of position. This site contains over 40 “stars” each represented by an “X” on the ceiling. Here are some photos I took at this site, including some views in D-stretch.
